1. Practice Thoughtful Responses
Admissions teams want to know what excites your student about learning and school life. Practice questions like:
“What’s your favorite subject and why?”
“How do you handle challenges?”
“What are you most looking forward to in a new school?”
Encourage them to speak honestly—not just what they think the interviewer wants to hear.
2. Encourage Self-Reflection
Have your student think about what kind of environment helps them thrive. What kind of clubs, sports, or activities appeal to them? Self-awareness makes their answers more authentic and aligned with the school’s mission.
3. Coach Confidence, Not Perfection
Remind your student that it’s okay to pause and think, or admit they’re still exploring their interests. Interviews aren’t quizzes—they’re conversations. Encourage eye contact, open posture, and a warm tone.
4. Know the School’s Vibe
Help your student research the school beforehand so they can reference something specific in the interview. That personal touch can go a long way.
5. Show Personality and Curiosity
Admissions teams want to get to know your student beyond academics. Encourage them to ask questions like “What are some favorite traditions at the school?” It shows they're genuinely engaged and thinking about fit and how they can contribute to the school environment.
6. Don’t Over-Rehearse
While practice helps, avoid overly scripted answers. The goal is to build comfort with speaking, not memorization. A few mock interviews with gentle feedback can help students go into their interviews with clarity and confidence.
